The younger generation of the 21st century is becoming increasingly obsessed with the digital gadgets and is forgetting the ways of life and learning that created a gentleman a few decades ago.
Few decades back, we used to write letters to our friends and family. We used to sit, think and write beautiful letters which often reflected the mood of the writer. Fountain pens and inks used to be the instruments of necessity in every house. It was an art to write a good letter. Alas, this art is getting lost under the shadow of emails and other digital messaging services. Nobody today bothers to write a letter and make somebody wait for days to see the message in it.
Few decades earlier, before the invention of ballpoint pen, quills, fountain pens and inks were the primary instrument for writing. All the writing was done using these instruments. People often got their hands dirty with different colored inks while filling and cleaning the fountain pens.
Due to the advent of cheap ballpoint pens and gel pens in the market, the whole writing system has changed. The fountain pens have moved from the niche of necessity to luxury, quills have altogether vanished. Due to low demand, the price of good fountain pens has sky rocketed, due to which not everyone wants to own a fountain pen. Moreover, writing with fountain pens needs practice and nobody today wants to waste time on practicing handwriting.
Still today, there are people who admire writing with fountain pens and inks. There are affordable fountain pens available in the market which serve the purpose very well. There are groups and communities that are putting their efforts to promote the art of penmanship.
